Alakazam!

The women of my family like to get together routinely to do crafts, pass ideas around, and just plain have a gab session. My father calls it the “hen party”.

When I switched jobs and moved further away, it made attending the gatherings rather difficult. By the time I arrive after work, it’s pretty late. I spend a little over an hour and have to turn around and leave in order to get home and to bed at a decent hour so I can get up and go to work in the morning. It stinks, but that’s the price we pay when we have to hold an 8-5 job and don’t live in the same community with the rest of the family.

The ladies were gathering at my sister’s house, so I went home got my girls and made the hour drive. It was about seven when we arrived. I just had gotten done with giving hugs and greeting everyone when my other sister, pushed a pencil and paper towards me and said (and I quote), “Make me an elephant.”

Always being the smart aleck and not being able to resist such a wide opening. I quickly replied, “Alakazam! … you’re an elephant.”

She got a stupid/surprised expression on her face which made it worthwhile as I chuckled over my own joke (yes, I know it’s a no-no, but I just can’t help it). I did draw an elephant for her.
