It can be quite funny how a conversation, if heard out of context, can be completely taken the wrong way – without the participants realizing it until someone else points it out.
We had been working hard that day, shoveling sand for our front porch. My back hurt, I was tired and going to bed.
My daughter was lounging across the living room chair, and she wanted a hug and kiss. Stepping over beside her, I motioned for her to stand up… she was tired too and didn’t want to stand up, but I wasn’t about to bend my sore back over to give her a hug while she was in the chair.
The conversation went something like this:
“Stand up.”
“No, I don’t want to stand up; you bend over.”
“I’m not bending over; you stand up.”
“C’mon, bend over.”
“I’m not bending over; you’re going to have to stand up.”
“C’mon, bend over… I bend over for you.”
Suddenly out of the kitchen we heard a small voice say, “kinky”.
My oldest daughter came out of the kitchen and repeated what she had heard, mimicking us. Her sister and I looked at each other and busted out laughing. Bed time hugs went around and I was able to go to bed without further incident.
